You Say Hydration, I Say Moisturization

(But let’s not call the whole thing off.)

We believe a good product can do (and should) do both! There’s a lot of talk lately about the difference between hydration vs. moisturization, so we thought we’d gather all the info for you, right here:

Hydration means replenishing water molecules within the multiple levels of the skin. Water is essential to skin – in fact, your skin is made up of 64% water, and can’t function without it. If your skin is dehydrated and dull, restoring hydration will help skin look plumped up, smoother and healthier. The following hydrating ingredients Care Skincare uses in all or some of our formulas include:

Hyaluronic Acid – a naturally occurring, super molecule which can hold up to 1,000 its weight in water

Glycerin – a humectant which attracts moisture like a sponge

Aloe Vera – to help protect against trans-epidermal water loss

Moisturization has to do with making sure that moisture is embedded and stays within your skin, protecting your skin’s natural barrier. When skin lacks moisture, it can look or feel dry, flaky or cracked. Skin is your body’s first line of defense, and the moisture barrier shields and protects the skin. When this is compromised, environmental aggressors can come through those cracks, opening the door to lots of issues that can age skin prematurely.  After skin experiences dryness, patchiness, redness and irritation, it is more prone to damaging free radicals which lead to lines, wrinkles and inflammation. Some of the clean ingredients Care Skincare uses to moisturize skin are:

Glycerin – which also creates a protective barrier to seal in moisture

Squalane Oil – derived from olives, it is soothing, non-irritating and non-comedogenic.

Safflower Seed Oil – helps bolster outer layer of skin and prevent flaking

Multi-tasking Hydrators + Moisturizers in One!

Both formulas for Care Skincare’s Deep Moisture Fix Hydrating Water Cream and The Everything Multi-level Moisturizer have hydration and moisturization abilities to boost your skin’s health.  However, just as we choose our clothes to fit our personal preferences, the type of day we are going to have, the weather or season, and many other factors – we need options for products that perfectly fit our skin’s needs at the right time. The team led by Debbie D’Aquino, Head of Care Skincare Innovation, felt it was best to offer two options for texture and benefits (think of it as your skincare wardrobe):

Deep Moisture Fix Hydrating Water Cream is a lightweight gel-cream that helps skin maintain its equilibrium and can be applied throughout the day as needed.  Tap this product on your skin to give it a hydration boost – you can even mix it with your foundation or CC Cream.  It has multi-functional use all year round (even doubling as a five-minute skin mask). Even though it feels sheer, it is a powerful product that smooths and illuminates skin with Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Aloe Vera, Caffeine and Vitamins C & E.

The Everything Moisturizer is a richer moisturizer which we recommend if skin tends more towards dryness, or if you like a thicker texture.  This multi-purpose product lays down a layer of moisture and also hydrates on multiple levels with Hyaluronic Acid. The key difference is The Everything also includes serum benefits in its formulation, with a high level of antioxidants from Turmeric Root Extract and Black Tea Ferment, plus Peptides to address lines and wrinkles.
