Winter Skin Self-Care Tips

It’s essential to care for your skin all year round, but winter is especially challenging due to indoor dryness and outdoor elements.  Here are a few tips to ensure your skin stays healthy and your moisture barrier strong and supported:

Use Mighty Moisturizers

Skin gets notoriously dry this time of year due to change of climate and often lack of humidity in the air.  The key to a great moisturizer is this – it needs to be easily absorbed and utilized by your skin in order to provide the proper levels of hydration and moisturization.  Our two mighty moisturizers formulated with Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin fit the bill: Deep Moisture Fix Hydrating Water Cream (a light but powerful gel-cream) and The Everything Multi-level Moisturizer (more dense, with anti-aging peptides and antioxidants). I like to apply a layer of Deep Moisture Fix all over, let it absorb for a few seconds, and follow up with The Everything in drier areas (my chin, around cheekbones and on the neck) during winter and early spring.

Safeguard Your Hands

I’ve made the mistake of not treating my hands well, and the effects last well beyond winter.  Here are a few tips to avoid dry, damaged hands:

  • Wet hands before washing them and always use lukewarm water.  This helps protect your hands from soap, which can be drying.
  • Moisturize often – apply whenever and wherever you can.  I keep hand cream in the car and in the kitchen. The Everything absolutely works wonders for dry hands (a little pump goes a long way).
  • Gloves! Keep your hands cosy when you’re outside and protect them as best you can.

Temperature Control

It’s so tempting to take a super-hot shower or bath, but the heat can dry out your skin (and hair). Use lukewarm water, especially when washing your face.  Hot water can strip skin of natural oils.  Pro tip: don’t cleanse, tone or even moisturize immediately after exposing skin to hot (or very cold) temperatures.  It’s also not necessary to scrub your face or over exfoliate – as a matter of fact, a gentle clean is so much better for skin.  If using Soft Sweep Micellar Cleanser + Toner, wait until your skin has regulated before you begin your routine.  Irritated skin won’t be as receptive to the benefits of good skincare.

Mask and Relax

Who doesn’t love a good face mask? Deep Moisture Fix Hydrating Water Cream doubles as skincare treat that only takes five minutes. Apply a generous amount to clean skin and sit with a good book for a deep hydration experience.

Get That Glow

Pro tip: start a Tireless Retinoid Night Serum regimen now for glowing results with minimal effort. A few drops nightly help increase surface turnover, refine pores and imperfections, visibly diminish fine lines and wrinkles.  With consistent use, it even stimulates collagen production. Tireless Retinoid Night Serum is formulated with Granactive Retinoid™—the gold standard in anti-aging ingredients, and won’t irritate skin like traditional retinol products.  This transformative serum also includes Hyaluronic Acid, soothing plant-based Squalane, and antioxidants from caffeine.
