Mornings might have been the boss of me lately, but I realize that has got to change. I’ve truly never been a “rise and shine” person, even after a coffee and a shot of espresso. It was hard enough getting out the door when I was single, and now with two kids (and two school lunches to pack), I realize I didn’t know how good I had it!
Nevertheless, it’s back to school and back to routine time – which means children must be fed, clothed, hydrated, provisioned and lightly groomed before they are bundled into the car. As for myself, these are the things I’d like before I head out the door: a fresh face, a stylish but comfortable outfit and a nutritious breakfast. It sounds like a lot to ask for all us busy people out there. I’ve been thinking about this dilemma, and here are my fast track findings:
PM PREP WORK: I do as much as I can the night before, like making and labeling lunches, laying out clothes and putting anything the kids need for school on the kitchen counter.
BE YOUR OWN PA: When there’s an event or appointment I put it in my calendar on my phone with a reminder a day in advance and a second reminder that morning so I’m not caught by surprise.
BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS: My sister showed me how to make a custom smoothie in minutes: frozen blueberries, half an avocado, matcha powder and some almond milk (the possibilities are endless). Something healthy and quick that can be taken on the go, and you could have a light meal (say granola and yogurt) at work or home.
BEST FACE FORWARD: Every minute counts in the am! My beauty routine is more streamlined, thanks to Care Skincare. Three essentials: Soft Sweep Micellar Cleanser + Toner to remove oils or product from skin (no rinsing required), The Everything Multi-level Moisturizer for hydration and radiance, then a few finger taps of Eye + Lip Nourishing Cream around my eye and lip area. Lightly tinted SPF 30, a swipe of dark brown eyeliner and a rosy lip balm.
COMFORTABLE CHIC: Can we give three cheers for leggings? The best basic for any lady-on-the-go, you can wear them with a tunic and blazer for work or a long t-shirt and a jean jacket for school drop off. Black and I are soul mates, but sometimes I like to dabble in dark grey or even a print – either way, I’m comfy.
MONDAY REWARDS: It’s toughest to get going after a weekend at home, so I usually promise my kids a Monday treat for good behavior (a pack of stickers when I get them from school or a special snack). I find this improves all of our moods and gets us out the door.
ASK ALEXA: There are some things Alexa helps me with every day: “Here’s your reminder. Brush your children’s teeth.” The sky’s the limit for any extra help you need.
