What Mom Life Means For Skin

In six years dedicated to pregnancy and babies, I can tell you exactly how many times I’ve been to the spa for a manicure – ONCE.  I hope I’m not complaining (it goes without saying having a family is a privilege and a joy) – yet there’s no doubt that motherhood is a full-time job with a side of “exhausted.” There’s usually too little time for the self-care that we deserve, that keeps us going. It is truly amazing how much we accomplish and how stay-at-home and working moms navigate the challenges of a busy day.

A Modern Mom and influencer I adore, Michelle Nhu, recently said: “I’m learning to appreciate the meaning of #selfcare more. Honestly, something as simple as having a clean skincare routine has really made me feel more confident inside and out.” A spa trip to get your nails done is a well-deserved treat but taking a few minutes each day, morning and evening, to nurture your skin is a great way to get started on your self-care journey. Care Skincare products were made with moms in mind. These five formulas are major multi-taskers that get to work the moment they touch your skin: treating, repairing, hydrating and maintaining your natural moisture barrier. That reminds me of, well, us – managing the kids while doing a load of laundry with lunch on the stove and simultaneously filling out an application for soccer club with a mental reminder to yourself that you’ve got to email that document to your boss on Monday…

Lifestyle changes, especially the lack of sleep that comes hand and hand with Mom Life, can really affect the happiness of your skin. I found that my face became extra sensitive during and post-pregnancy. After my second baby, I received a gift of a very luxurious face cream – so expensive that I felt guilty using it. The next morning, my skin had exploded into angry red welts and patches and I hurried to my dermatologist. He told me that I should avoid anything with added fragrance, to stop wearing makeup until my skin cleared up, and prescribed a variety of different creams. I was dismayed to see that almost everything he recommended had parabens in it, which we know is a skincare don’t. I’m glad to tell you that Care is a clean beauty brand, which means no fragrance, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil or alcohol.  Care Skincare soothes my skin instead of causing irritation or damage, which is why I can vouch for its safety and quality.

As a Mom with little time to spare, here’s something that has made a huge difference and is absolutely worth your while – cleansing and toning in the morning. Sometimes you’re so groggy from an all-nighter with the kids you skip the basics like tooth brushing or splashing water on your face (no judgement at all, Mom Life is hectic). It only takes a few seconds to saturate a cotton ball with Soft Sweep Micellar Cleanser + Toner to gently and effectively remove the oils and impurities from the night before. Check out the cotton ball and you’ll be glad you did. No rinsing required, which saves a step right there. Twice a day means clearer, cleaner, fresher skin that looks better with makeup or without.

I think it’s marvelous that moms are celebrated today, perhaps more than any time in history. We are Mom – a loving combination of Fearless and Amazing, Resourceful and Smart. Send me a note about your Mom Life and let’s swap stories!
